The TCU Horned Frogs have moved up three spots in the Bowl Championship Series standings released today. The Frogs are ranked sixth in the latest poll with a point total of 17.65, just six-tenths of a point behind Texas. The top four teams are Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State and LSU.
The number six ranking represents the highest ranking a non-BCS league school has ever achieved in the poll. If a non-BCS league team finishes sixth or higher in the final BCS rankings, it receives an automatic at-large berth in a BCS Bowl.
"We're excited," said TCU head coach Gary Patterson. "We know the ranking only has to do with the work we've done so far through nine games. We still have three to go. Cincinnati beat us last year, Southern Miss may be playing the best ball in the conference and SMU is a rivalry game," noted Patterson. "We have nine games under our belt and the rankings reflect what we've accomplished so far. I think the rankings show that we've gained some respect in the voters."
"This is a very smart group of players," continued Patterson. "We've told them to take care of it one game at a time and they've bought into it. The only thing different I've told them this week is there are very few times in your life you have a chance to be part of history. This is one of those times and we'd like to be part of it."
TCU (9-0, 6-0 Conference USA) is one of just two unbeaten teams in the country, joining the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
The Frogs, ranked ninth in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and 10th in the Associated Press poll, will put their unblemished record on the line on Saturday, November 15, when they host the Cincinnati Bearcats (5-4, 2-3) in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth.
