
Women's Tennis Heads To California

Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU women's tennis team sent three players to compete in the pre-qualifying portion of the 2003 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at UCLA. The pre-aualifying tournament winners advance to the qualifying draw to be held Oct. 9-10. The premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season, the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships feature the top players in NCAA Division I tennis.
Taking part in the ITA All-American Championships will be Jennifer Chay, Paige Brown and Saber Pierce. Both will appear in the pre-qualifying event that will occur Saturday and Sunday. Chay and Pierce are playing to get into the qualifying draw for next weekend. Paty Aburto has already been entered into the qualifying draw for next week.
The Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships (its counterpart, the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships, takes place in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the same time), the Nov. 6-9 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, and the year-end NCAA Championships are college tennis' three national championship events during the season.
In first round action on Friday, Brown will face Washington's Saskia Nauenberg at 10:30 a.m. Pierce will face another Huskie, Dinka Hadzic at noon. Also playing at noon is Chay facing Mississippi's Karem Harboe.
The Frogs will be at home Oct. 17-20 when they host the 2003 Omni Hotels Southwest Regional Championships at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
