Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Horned Frog baseball team completed its first week of fall practices under new head coach Jim Schlossnagle. The first week included four practices and three intrasquad games at Lupton Stadium and Williams-Reilly Field.
Offensive Leaders through three games:
Bo Cogbill: team-leading .500 (5-10) batting average; 3 RBI; 2 doubles, 1 stolen base
D.J. Pokluda: .444 (4-9) batting average; 2 RBI; 1 double, 1 triple
Ramon Moses: .444 (4-9) batting average; 2 RBI
Pitching Leaders through three games:
Robbie Findlay: 0.00 ERA; 3.1 innings pitched, 5 hits, 2 strikeouts
Clint Mokry: 2.25 ERA; 4.0 innings pitched, 3 hits, 1 earned run, 4 strikeouts
Comments from Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle:
On the offense:
"We have a long way to go on the offensive side of the ball as our position players adjust to the style of play. However, Coach Matt Siegel has done an outstanding job with some individual hitters and we are seeing some progress. J.J. Estrada, Mike Epping and Shelby Ford have been impressive to this point."
On the defense:
"We are a work in progress defensively as I determine who will fit in at each position. I am asking several players to play multiple positions to see how we can get our best nine players on the field. German Duran has a chance to be one of the premier shortstops in all of college baseball and Ramon Moses has shown promise both as a second baseman and in centerfield. Kyle Dahlberg has also done well defensively behind the plate."
On the pitching:
"Robbie Findlay threw very well over the weekend along with Clint Mokry, Ryan Weems and Omar Arif. We have not begun to throw very many breaking balls yet but will do so this week. I like the top half of our pitching staff right now but we need some of the returning pitchers who didn't pitch much last year to continue their improvement."
On the team as a whole:
"As a whole, the players have bought into everything we have asked them to do and are very coachable. Their effort has been positive and hopefully that will translate into improvement in execution over the next two weeks."
All games are open to the public and free of admission. Also included in the schedule is the Major League Scout day; which is set for Wednesday, Oct. 22. Anyone wanting to conduct interviews should contact Brandie Davidson at 817-257-7479.
