CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Bearcats defeated the TCU women's soccer team by a 3-0 count on Friday night at Cincinnati's Meyers Field to improve to 6-2-1 (2-0-1 C-USA) on the year. TCU (1-6-3) is now in the midst of a seven-game winless streak dating back to September 3.
Bearcat Amy Simonson continued her impressive 2002 season with a goal, her fifth of the season, while Rachel Lieberman added a goal for UC.
The Bearcats wasted little time denting the scoreboard when Lieberman gathered a loose ball in the ninth minute and blasted it past TCU goalkeeper Ruth DeJong from 20 yards out. Amy Simonson scored in the 36th minute when she took a cross from Tasha Wagner and placed it in the net. UC took the 2-0 lead into halftime and cruised to the win.
Cincinnati's third tally of the night was a unique one. Tianna Oliver made a long throw in, which deflected off a TCU player and into the net. Oliver was credited with an assist on the own goal, making the score 3-0.
Three goalkeepers combined in Cincinnati's shutout, and the Horned Frogs were only able to attempt three shots on the night.
"TCU has some nice forwards, so its a credit to our defense to limit them to three shots," said Cincinnati head coach Meridy Glenn. "We do not take anyone lightly in this league."
