Gary Patterson: "Our secondary should be another strength. We really didn't lose much at cornerback. We lost Bo Springfield and Kendrick Patterson, but both were hurt for much of the season anyway and didn't see that much playing time. We come back with our best defender, Jason Goss, on one side, and Tyrone Sanders on the other."
As is the case on the defensive line, the Frogs appear well-armed in the defensive secondary with a wealth of experience returning. That experience will be important, as the Frogs need to cut down on the number of big passing plays surrendered last season.
The leader at the cornerback position is second team all-league pick Jason Goss. Goss generally draws the task of covering the opponent's top receiver, often in a one-on-one situation. Despite the continual challenges he tied for third in the country last season with 24 passes defended while picking off three of the team's seven interceptions.
Junior Tyrone Sanders is starting to emerge as a capable corner on the other side of the field. He turned in his best spring at TCU this past spring and appears ready for the challenges that await him.
Mark Walker joined Martin Patterson as one of the two true freshmen to see playing time in 2001. Walker may possess the best hands of the TCU corners and his playing time will continue to increase as he matures throughout his TCU career.
The Braziel twins, Jerrod and Jerome, continued to make strides in the spring. Blessed with outstanding speed, the sophomore twins are getting stronger and should begin to fulfill their vast potential.
Senior Bobby Blankenship is a very intelligent player who gets the most out of his abilities.
The Frogs coaching staff battled hard with Syracuse University for the commitment of Eric Buchanan from DeSoto. The freshman has a bright future at TCU.
