The TCU Horned Frogs conducted a 56-play scrimmage including punts and field goal attempts on Wednesday morning as they continued preparations for their nationally-televised Labor Day opener at Conference USA rival Cincinnati.
"We were not a very good football team today," said Head Coach Gary Patterson. "I was not very happy with our play. We have a lot of guys banged up. (With the Northwestern game just five days after the Cincinnati game) we have to get the two's and three's ready. That's what this afternoon's practice will focus on."
TCU signal-callers completed 5-of-17 passes for 42 yards this morning. The running backs combined for 155 yards on 29 carries, an average of 5.3 yards per carry. True freshmen Lonta Hobbs and Robert Merrill each showed flashes of their abilities in limited work. Hobbs carried three times for 34 yards, including a 22-yard burst, while Merrill rushed three times for 23 yards, including a 14-yard scamper.
The scrimmage did see the return of defensive tackle Chad Pugh. However, Pugh left the scrimmage early with an unspecified injury.
