The TCU Horned Frogs went through an 82-play scrimmage on Saturday morning as they continued preparations for their nationally-televised Labor Day opener at Conference USA rival Cincinnati.
"Overall, I was happy with the offense," said TCU head coach Gary Patterson. "This was a first-down scrimmage and I saw alot of three to four yard gains. We like to be in second and short or second and medium situations. I was glad about just the one turnover in about 80 plays. We protected the ball well. The defense came out with good intensity early. I think both of the touchdown runs came against the second team. We had too many penalties on both sides of the ball, but the good news is that no one got hurt," added Patterson.
Senior quarterback Sean Stilley completed 8-of-16 passes for 65 yards. Redshirt freshman Tye Gunn hit on 8-of-12 passes for 59 yards. Junior tailback Kenny Hayter, the transfer from Texas, carried 11 times for 91 yards, including a pair of 35-yard touchdown runs. Junior Corey Connally added 49 yards on 11 rushing attempts. Matt Grimmett was the top receiver with a pair of catches for 51 yards.
The Frogs will go through a light workout this afternoon, then enjoy an off day on Sunday before resuming two-a-day workouts Monday.
