FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU rifle head coach Roger Ivy has announced the signing of a pair of freshmen to the Horned Frog program for the 2002-03 season. Sherri Gallagher (Prescott, Ariz./Prescott Christian) and Celeste Green (Lufkin, Texas/Hewitt) boast an abundance of national and international experience and make up perhaps the most highly touted freshman class in recent TCU rifle history.
Gallagher won a world championship in 2000 with the USA Under-21 team in Bisley, England. She is the first American woman to ever qualify for the Queen's Finals of the British Nationals Competition, placing 13th out of 1,850 shooters in 2000 and 34th in 2001.
Gallagher also holds nine national records, including individually in the 600-yard, iron sights, slow fire. She has claimed at least three titles in national competition (team or individual) every year since 1999.
Green, the sister of TCU senior and school record-holder Jessica Green, has also earned international recognition, shooting with numerous select teams and at prestigious national and international events. She is a veteran of the U.S. National and Development Teams (2001-02), Junior World Championship Team ('02), Junior Olympic All-Star Team ('02), the Championship of the Americas ('01) and the 2000-01 NRA National Championships.
Additionally, Green holds records in the International Randle Match and at the Texas State 4-H Championships.
"We're very excited to have Sherri and Celeste join our program," Ivy said. "With their talent and experience, they will be able to add greatly to the team right off the bat. Their abilities are widely recognized, so we are looking forward to them being able to showcase their skills for us when the season opens Sept. 7 at Nevada."
