FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 31 TCU men's tennis team (5-3) cruised over the No. 67 Furman Paladins (1-9) by a 6-1 count on Friday, March 1 on the indoor courts at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. The Frogs won all three doubles matches for the first time this season and won five of six singles matches for the 6-1 triumph.
In an upset at one doubles, the Horned Frogs' duo of freshman Fabrizio Sestini and junior Toni Gordon picked up an 8-5 victory over 15th-ranked James Cameron and John Chesworth. It was the pair's second victory over a ranked doubles team in as many matches.
At three doubles, TCU freshman Jacob Martin and senior Daniel Wajnberg ended their 0-6 dual match slump this year with a 9-7 victory over Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons.
In singles, 111th-ranked TCU freshman Daniel Scholten notched the Frogs' first victory at the five slot with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ryan McCarthy. The win snapped Scholten's two-match losing streaking and gave him his 10th victory of the spring.
Gordon continued his hot streak by winning his fourth consecutive match. He picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over James Cameron at two singles.
Sophomore Alex Menichini clinched the Horned Frogs' victory at four singles when he defeated Chris Henderson 7-6, 6-4. Like Gordon, the Calabasas, California-native has won his last four matches and is now 5-3 in dual matches this year.
Wajnberg and Martin both won their matches over the Paladins' Andrew Rogers and Allen Simmons at three and six singles for the Horned Frogs' final victories. The win was only Wajnberg's second in his last five matches, while Martin has won six of his last eight.
The Paladins' lone win came at No. 1 singles where unranked John Chesworth upset the 74th-ranked Rome, Italy-native Sestini 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
The Horned Frogs finish up their five-match homestand on March 8 against No. 39 Miami at 1:00 p.m. before they head to Waco, Texas to face No. 8 Baylor on March 14 at 6:00 p.m.
