Soccer Frogs Drop Home Opener to Oklahoma

FORT WORTH, Texas (September 2, 2001) -- The TCU women's soccer team dropped its home opener Sunday evening to the Oklahoma Sooners 2-0 in front of a crowd of 425 fans at the Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth. With the win, the Sooners improved to 1-0-0 while TCU fell to 1-1-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Sooner's Logan Womack found the back of the net on a pass from Shannon Wing after the Frogs' goalkeeper Shannon Wagner misplayed the ball in front of the goal.

Oklahoma added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Jonette Coquat knocked in a rebound on Megan Olsen's shot from the left side of the goal.

As a team, TCU outshot the Sooners 14-11, but managed only three shots on goal to the Sooners' seven. TCU senior midfielder Tiffany Goetz narrowly missed scoring two goals in the first half, hitting the top of the crossbar on one and sailing a direct kick just high on the other.

"It was unfortunate that we couldn't get any of our shots to fall tonight, but at the same time we didn't play smart either," remarked TCU head coach Dave Rubinson after the match.

TCU will travel to Birmingham, Alabama for their next two matches as they compete in the UAB Nike Classic next weekend. The Frogs take on Mississippi State on Friday, September 7 at 5 p.m. followed by Ole Miss on Sunday at 10 a.m.
