Skaggs (6-0) worked the first five innings, allowing one run on two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Gonzalez earned his first save of the year, pitching four scoreless innings to close the game.
Rice scored single runs in the first and second, then added two more in the third to build a 4-1 lead. TCU starter David Tombrella allowed four runs, three earned on 10 hits in 3.2 innings. TCU's lone run came in the first on two walks, a single and a sacrifice fly by Walter Olmstead. TCU would not pick up another hit until a two-out double by Mike Settle in the fourth, and then a leadoff single by Ramon Moses in the eighth. The Owls added insurance runs in the fifth and eighth innings to increase the lead to 7-1.
Austin Davis and Eric Arnold led the Owls with three hits each. As a team, Rice had 16 hits, including four doubles. The Frogs were led by Macha, who walked once and singled. Tom Bates walked three times in four plate appearances.
TCU will next travel to Norman, Oklahoma to face the Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday (April 3).
