Before the Frogs hit the field on Saturday, they will participate in the annual TCU "Night of Champions" on Thursday, March 8. The Night of Champions is a culmination of TCU's off-season conditioning program, where players try to claim the coveted Iron Frog Award. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Walsh Complex weight room.
"I'm anxious to get started," said TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson. "The intensity in the weight room has been awesome. We need to use that excitement to our advantage, especially due to the lack of experience at several positions. Our number one objective this spring is for the coaching staff and players to get to know each other, and learn to trust one another. We have a great advantage this spring, because our young players see this as their opportunity to contribute."
A total of 32 lettermen, including quarterback Casey Printers, return from last season's WAC championship squad. The Frogs finished the 2000 season with a 10-2 overall record, 7-1 in WAC play. TCU will open the 2001 season on August 30 when they travel to Denton to face North Texas. The 2001 season will be TCU's first as a member of Conference USA.
The Frogs will practice a total of four times before spring break. After the Saturday practice, TCU will return to the field on Monday (Mar. 12), Tuesday (Mar. 13) and Thursday (Mar. 15). Weekday practices will normally start at 3:30 p.m. The squad will take a week off for spring break and then resume practice on Tuesday, Mar. 27. Other scheduled workout dates are Mar. 29, 31, April 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 12 and 13th. The Frogs will scrimmage on Mar. 31, Apr. 7 and 13. All practice dates and times are subject to change.
