Frogs Win First of Three Games Over Hawaii

Honolulu, Hawaii - Terry Trofholz' two-run triple in the fourth inning, lifted TCU to a 8-5 win over Hawaii Saturday at Rainbow Stadium. The Frogs improve to 15-9 overall, 6-2 in WAC action. The Rainbows drop to 8-14 overall, 3-10 in WAC play.
Trofholz' two-out triple to right in the fourth brought home Jason Price and Ramon Moses. One batter later, Rudy Rivera doubled to right center, driving in Trofholz. The three-run rally erased Hawaii's early 1-0 lead.
TCU increased the lead to 5-2 in the sixth, when Price drove in two runs on his three home-run of the year. Tom Bates led off the seventh with a solo home run, his fourth of the season. The Frogs added a second run in the inning on a Jeff Reed walk and a Mike Settle base hit. The final run of the game came on a walk to Trofholz and a Walter Olmstead base hit. Moses led the team with three basehits, while Trofholz and Bates each had two hits. Eight of the TCU starters had at least one hit in the game.
Chris Bradshaw earned the win, his fifth of the year. Bradshaw allowed single runs in the third and fifth innings, before turning the game over to the bullpen in the sixth. Bradshaw allowed nine hits, one walk and four strikeouts in five innings. Patrick Newburn gave up three runs, all coming in the eighth and ninth innings, in 3.1 innings. Stan Newton gave up one hit before retiring the final two men to preserve the win.
Hawaii starter Jeff Coleman gave up six runs on nine hits in 6.0 innings to suffer the loss. Pat Scalabrini led the Rainbows with three hits.
Game two of the three-game series will be held Sunday afternoon with first-pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. Hawaii time, 6 p.m. in Fort Worth.
