Two Games Featured on National Television
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (February 8, 2001) -- The TCU football team will be featured in two nationally televised broadcasts, as the 2001 football schedule was officially announced today.
ESPN or ESPN2 will be on hand when the Horned Frogs host East Carolina at Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth on Tuesday, October 30. It will mark the first Tuesday night game in school history. An ESPN national audience will also have the opportunity to watch the Frogs in action when they complete the 2001 regular season on Friday, November 30 at Southern Mississippi.
The Horned Frogs will open the season on Saturday, September 1, when they travel to Denton to take on the North Texas Mean Green. The Frogs will remain in the Metroplex the following week when they battle for the Iron Skillet at SMU. The first of five home games is set for Saturday, September 15 when the Marshall Thundering Herd visits Fort Worth for the first time.
TCU will open the conference portion of the season at Houston on September 29. It will mark the Frogs first contest as a member of Conference USA. Following an open week, the Frogs will travel to Tulane for their second of seven conference matchups. The first Conference USA game played in Fort Worth is set for Saturday, October 20, when the Army Cadets visit Amon Carter Stadium.
"Were excited about this schedule," said TCU head football coach Gary Patterson. "Although we only have five home games, we are playing seven games in the Metroplex and eight games in the state of Texas, which is great for our fans. We have three bowl teams coming to Fort Worth (Marshall, East Carolina and Louisville), and Army, which brings such great tradition. The teams that should be favored to win the conference are at the end of the schedule, which will help spark some rivalries. With the ESPN television agreement, we will receive some national exposure that TCU has not received in the past," added the first-year head coach. "The Tuesday night game is a great opportunity to showcase TCU and Fort Worth to the nation."
