TCU Baseball Falls Short of Missouri Southern

Fort Worth (Feb. 7) - Missouri Southern exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to defeat TCU, 9-6, Wednesday at the TCU Diamond. The Lions are now 1-1 this season, while the Horned Frogs drop to 3-3.
In the fourth, the Lions scored the seven runs on the strength of six base hits and three Frog errors. The biggest hit of the inning was two-run single off the bat of Jeremy McMullen.
The Frogs jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Jason Price doubled, Erick Macha and Jared Lundeen walked to load the bases. Tom Bates was hit by a pitch, driving in Price. Mike Settle then doubled down the left field to score Macha and Lundeen. The final run of the inning came on an error by the Missouri Southern third baseman. Settle led TCU with two hits, both doubles, and three runs batted in.
Jeremy Hatfield earned the win for Missouri Southern. In four innings, he allowed one run on two hits and a pair of walks. Patrick Newburn suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned in 2.2 innings.
TCU will return to action on Friday (Feb. 9), when they travel to Round Rock to participate in the Express College Classic. TCU will open the weekend with a single game on Friday against Kansas. Game time is 6 p.m. In addition to TCU and Kansas, Southwest Texas and Charlotte will also participate in the Express College Classic.
