Linebacker LaMarcus McDonald and placekicker Nick Browne have been selected as the Conference USA Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week respectively for their efforts in TCU's 37-22 win over conference champion Louisville on Friday, the conference office announced today.
McDonald, a 6-1, 217-pounder from Waco, was credited with eight tackles (five solos and three assists) against Louisville. The junior linebacker was consistently in the Cardinals' backfield, logging five-and-a-half tackles for losses totaling 43 yards, including three-and-a-half sacks amounting to 27 lost yards. His efforts helped the TCU defense establish a school record by holding Louisville to -47 yards rushing in the game.
Browne, a sophomore from Garland, Texas, scored 13 points in the win over the Cardinals. He converted on three field goal attempts (22, 50 and 37 yards) and four extra points. His 50-yard field goal was a career long and tied for the 10th longest field goal in TCU history. It was the longest field goal by a Horned Frog since the 1998 season. It was the second time that Browne has earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors this season, also earning that distinction after tying a school record with four field goals in a win over North Texas.
