FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team avenged a loss two weeks ago to conference rival Saint Louis Saturday, as the Frogs (4-11, 2-4 C-USA) topped the Billikens (4-8, 2-3 C-USA) in a hard-fought four-game match, 3-1. The win marked the first four-game match victory of the season for the Frogs.
TCU came out in dominant fashion in game one, leading from the very beginning. The Frogs stretched their lead to as many as 14 late in the game (28-14), before SLU rallied to score five to TCU's final two. TCU took the game 30-19, the second fewest points TCU has allowed in a game this season.
Game two was all-TCU until the Billikens fought back in to the game to tie things up at 26 all. SLU went on to outscore the Frogs four to two, and take the game 30-28. Game three was a point for point battle until the Frogs took the lead at 17-16 and refused to relinquish the lead, winning the game 30-26.
The fourth game started out as with the early Billiken lead. Neither team would give an inch, and the point-for-point battle continued until the Frogs took control at 25-23. TCU held on to win the game, 30-26, and take their first four-game victory of the season.
"I was disappointed with the second game," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "We let SLU control the pace of the game, and that gave them the advantage."
"I was really pleased with Domi's (Szabo) production. She's playing the outside #1 position and we're having to go to her and put some crucial moments in her hands. She's done really well. Courtney (Beach) is such a fighter. She really gets after it, and Marci (King) is always so steady for us."
The Frogs were led in kills and attacks by freshman Dominika Szabo with 21 and 49 respectively. Senior Marci King led the team in digs with 15, while fellow senior Lindsay Hayes dished out 36 assists for the evening. Senior Allison Lynch was again the team's leading blocker with six.
The Frogs continue their homestand with a non-conference match versus Southwest Texas State on Tuesday, October 9 starting at 7:00 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The match will be broadcast on KTCU (88.7 FM) beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, and will feature Russell Scott handling play-by-play and former VolleyFrog Amy Atamanczuk providing color.
