FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team (3-11, 1-4 C-USA) posted its first home loss of the season in a conference match against Memphis (12-2, 3-2 C-USA). The team will look to get back on the winning track against Saint Louis on Saturday.
Game one was a back and forth battle. The Tigers broke out to lead by as many as seven points late before the Frogs rallied to score six to the Tigers final three. Memphis took the first game 30-26. Game two was all about the Tigers as they tore out to the early lead and took the game 30-20.
Following intermission, the Frogs came out tough. Game three was another point-for-point battle, but this time the Frogs led by nine before the Tigers made another run to pull within two (25-23). TCU held on to win the game 30-25, and take the match to the fourth game.
Neither team took a decisive lead in the fourth game, but the Frogs tied things up at 28 before dropping the final two points of the game and match. Memphis won the game 30-28, and the match 3-1.
"I told the team that we'll have matches like this - ones that are right there," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "You can't allow the first couple of games where you get beat to decide it."
"Amber Sims played well tonight after coming back from her injury. Courtney Beach had a good night and some good blocks for us. We just allowed them to score in streaks."
"We're better than our 3-11 record. We really thought we could get to Memphis," said Troudt.
The Frogs were led by senior Marci King with 18 kills for the evening. King and junior Jennifer Cuca each had 13 digs. Senior Allison Lynch had eight digs for the night, while senior Lindsay Hayes passed out 29 assists.
The Frogs' homestand continues Saturday with a rematch against the Saint Louis Billikens. The match, scheduled for 7:00 p.m., will be played in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The two teams met two weeks ago in St. Louis, where the Billikens came out on top, 3-1.
