FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Sean Stilley threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score as TCU handed Army its 14th straight road loss, 38-20 on Saturday.
TCU (4-3, 2-1 Conference USA) finally found an offensive spark against Army (1-5, 1-4) after a lackluster performance in a 48-22 loss to Tulane last week.
In his first career start, Stilley was 21-of-29 for 273 yards with no interceptions. Stilley filled in for starter Casey Printers, who missed the game after bruising his right shoulder at Tulane.
Not that Stilley needed much help, running back Corey Connally did a fine job of shouldering TCU's offensive load.
Connally, 5-foot-11, 187-pounds, hammered away at Army's defense, rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. He also added three catches for 52 yards.
TCU finished with 485 yards of offense and no turnovers against the Black Knights. It was a stark turnaround from TCU's 314-yard, five-turnover performance against Tulane, which entered the game with one of the nation's worst defensive units.
Army jumped out to a 7-0 first-quarter lead, marching down the field on an 11-play, 55-yard scoring drive. Black Knights quarterback Chad Jenkins converted three third downs during the drive, capping the possession with a 1-yard sneak.
The Horned Frogs wasted little time responding as they marched down the field in eight plays and 65 yards. Connally scampered into the end zone on a 4-yard run, knotting the score at 7-7.
Army pulled to 14-13 after Jenkins found a wide-open Aris Comeaux down the center of the field for a 41-yard touchdown strike early in the third quarter. But the Army kicker Derek Jacobs missed the extra point a few inches to the right, allowing TCU to remain ahead.
TCU went on to score 24 points on its next four possessions. Army did little right in return, including fumbling away the ball in its own territory, turning the game into a blowout.
The Black Knights added a meaningless touchdown with 14 seconds remaining in the game on a 50-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Reggie Nevels to Chris Pestel.
Army has lost 19 of its last 21 games and 39 of its last 52.
Army had a cheering section of about 4,000 soldiers from Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. The soldiers roared approval for Army's few highlights.
