The Rotary Gridiron Classic is played at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Jan. 13, 2001 at 1 p.m. EST for the third annual college football all-star game that matches the best of the Sunshine State against the best of the US. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN 2. The all-star squads will practice at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex from Jan. 8 - 11. Bobo and Garner are the first Frogs to compete in the Gridiron Classic.
The East-West Shrine Game is one of America's greatest sports events. Begun in 1925, the Shrine Game is our country's oldest all-star contest and second only to the Rose Bowl among post-season games. On Saturday, January 13, 2001, a new crop of top senior football players in North America will take to the turf for the 76th Annual Shrine Game. The game will be nationally televised live on ESPN beginning at 1:00 p.m. PST from the new Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco, CA. James, Schobel and Worthen will play on the West Squad. Last season, wide receiver Pat Batteaux played in the East-West Shrine game.
Senior Bowl 2001 will be nationally-televised by ESPN and broadcast nationally on ESPN Radio with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. Bill Cowher and his entire Pittsburg Steelers staff will coach the Senior Bowl's North team, while Mike Sherman and his Green Bay Packers staff will handle coaching duties for the South squad in the January 20, 2001, contest. TCU has not been represented in the Senior Bowl, since 1995, when tailback Andre Davis played for the South team.
The 2001 Rivals.com Hula Bowl Maui Senior All-Star Football Classic will feature a rematch of the head coaches who squared off in the for the national championship last year. Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer and Florida State's Bobby Bowden have been named the head coaches for the Kai (North) and Aina (South) squads respectively for the annual all-star game that will be played on Saturday, January 20 at War Memorial Stadium on Maui. Beamer will be assisted by Purdue's Joe Tiller, 2000 AFCA President Bob Ford of the University at Albany and one of the AFCA's 2000 National Coach of the Year winners. Bowden will be joined by Utah's Ron McBride and two of the AFCA's 2000 National Coach of the Year winners. The 2001 Rivals.com Hula Bowl Maui will again be televised by ESPN and will kickoff in primetime at 8:00 p.m. EST/3:00 p.m. HST January 20. Safety Reggie Hunt represented TCU in the 2000 Hula All Star Classic.
