With still nine days prior to the home opener, TCU has sold 12,116 season tickets, surpassing the previous season ticket mark of 12,056, set in 1985. The home schedule that year included Tulane, SMU, Arkansas, North Texas, Houston and Texas A&M.
"This speaks volumes for the efforts of (TCU Associate Athletic Director) Kevin O'Connell and his marketing staff, the 'Your Home Town Ticket Team' campaign and the community of Fort Worth," said Eric Hyman, TCU Athletics Director. "When I came to TCU, they said if we would build a solid program, people would come out and support us, and that's happening. This gives us positive momentum and is something we hope to continue to build upon in the future," added Hyman.
The "Your Home Town Ticket Team" is a local group of volunteers who sold TCU football season tickets to area corporations this summer.
"Our players and coaching staff are excited and grateful by the show of support from the TCU and the Fort Worth communities," noted Head Football Coach Dennis Franchione. "We've seen the enthusiasm around our program spreading and were optimistic this season ticket record would fall this year. It's something we can all take pride in."
The final order that put the Frogs over the previous season ticket plateau came from the Americredit Corporation. Americredit purchased 100 season tickets for Project Purple, TCU Athletics outreach partnership with North Texas corporations. Project Purple allows area companies to purchase tickets to TCU football games. The tickets are then donated to area underprivileged children, allowing them to experience a TCU football game for free. Americredit has designated its tickets to be split evenly between the Boys and Girls Club of Fort Worth and the Boys and Girls Club of Arlington.
