Whitaker, a senior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. (Rancho Cucamonga HS), rushed for a career-high 254 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion in San Jose States 40-27 win at Stanford. He set a school record for average yards per carry with 12.1 and had four carries of 40 or more yards. It was the third year in a row San Jose State beat Stanford.
Walker, a sophomore from Midland, Texas (Lee HS), recorded a career-high nine tackles (eight solo), one interception return for 17 yards and three pass break-ups in UTEPs 37-20 victory over SMU. The victory marked the first WAC opening win for UTEP since 1991.
Veale, a senior from San Antonio, Texas (East Central HS), returned eight punts for 143 yards including one for 85 yards and a touchdown in TCUs 41-10 victory at Nevada. The 143 yards were three shy of the school record set by Lindy Berry. The punt return for a touchdown was the first by a TCU player since 1995.
