TCU Women's Tennis Notes - April 26

The 26th-ranked TCU women's tennis team ended the regular season with a 18-4 mark and a 3-1 record against Western Athletic opponents. It also ended the season with a four-match winning streak while winning 11 of its last 12 dual matches. The 2000 campaign proved to be a very successful one for TCU. The Frogs ended the season with their best record in nearly 14 years. In 1986, TCU had a better year than this year when they finished with a 24-6 mark and had a final season ranking of 25th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association polls.

The Euro Duo tandem of Lucie Dvorakova and Daria Zoldakova, ranked 12th in the ITA doubles polls, paced the Frogs throughout the year. The senior tandem ranked in the ITA doubles rankings consistently found victories against highly-ranked teams from nop-notch schools all over the nation.
During the fall, the two played flawless tennis going 12-1 and falling to Texas' Walker and Smashey in the finals of the ITA Regional in College Station, Texas.
In January, the team captured the Indoor Rolex Consolation Championships in Dallas, Texas. During the tournament, the team fell short to the No. 9th-ranked team of Granville and Tokuda of Stanford, 6-3, 6-0, in the first round. But in the second round, they rebounded and knocked off the No. 2-ranked team of Frey and Eberle of Mississippi and teams from SMU and Oklahoma State to capture the championship.
In dual match play, the two continued their exceptional play. During the spring season, they knocked off ranked opponents from Texas A&M and San Diego. Against the Aggies they defeated the No. 34th-ranked team of Dingwall and Nedorostova in commanding fashion, 8-2. Against San Diego, the seniors pulled off one the most memorable moments from their careers at TCU with a 9-8 victory over the nationally No. 1-ranked doubles duo of Lesenarova and Valkyova of San Diego.
Overall, the Euro Duo ended the regular season off with a 27-2 mark and finished the season on a 14-match winning streak that began in late-January.
Horned Frog 20 Win Club . . . .
The 2000 Horned Frogs had five individual with 20 or more wins in singles action. In addition, the Frogs had one doubles tandem
with 20 plus wins for the regular season.

TCU went 10-1 against teams in the Southwest Region. TCU knocked off UTA, 60th-ranked Houston, Lamar, 37th-ranked Texas A&M, UNT, Sam Houston, UTEP, 38th-ranked Tulane, New Orleans and 57th-ranked Rice. The Frogs lone loss in regional action came from 29th-ranked Baylor on Feb. 23 at home, 5-4. Last season TCU went 6-3 against regional foes. The Southwest Region consists of schools from the states of Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Sophomore Leoni Weirich ended the regular season off with a 24-5 mark with a .828 winning percentage. Weirich, a native of South Africa, ended the season off with a nine match winning streak in singles competition. Her last loss came in early-March against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Weirich is undefeated at the No. 3, 7-0, and No. 5, 3-0, singles slate.
During the fall Leoni went 7-1 with her lone loss coming from Texas' Michelle Faucher at the ITA Regionals. In her brief carrer at TCU, Weirich is 35-16 with a .627 winning percentage in singles action.
Ingram Ignites Frogs . . . . .
TCU head coach Roland Ingram entered the 2000 campaign with a good feeling. Ingram is in his 17th season as head coach for the
Frogs. Over the years, Ingram has nocthed a 283-145 mark with a winning percentage of .661.
This year the Frogs displayed success consistently and had results to show for it. The 18-4 mark proved to be the best since 1986, when the Frogs went 24-6 and ended the season ranked 25th.
Throughout the year Ingram ignited the Frogs past ranked teams as South Carolina (17), Washington (25) and Texas A&M (37). In addition, he aided his players in wins against the nationally No. 1 ranked doubles and singles participants through the year, Dvorakova ousted No. 1-ranked K. Kraszewski of Washington, 7-5, 7-6; Dvorakova and Zoldakova knock off No. 1-ranked doubles duo of Lesenarova and Valkyova from San Diego, 9-8.
We have a great team and we have beaten some top-notch teams throughout the year but the post-season is what matters. Ingram said.
