Hamilton Leads Frogs to 11-5 Win over Hilo

FORT WORTH (April 13) Mark Hamilton drove in five runs on four hits to lead TCU to an 11-5 win over Hawaii-Hilo Thursday (4/13) at the TCU Diamond. TCU improve to 15-25 overall, 6-9 in Western Athletic Conference play. Hilo drops to 14-24 overall, 6-9 in the WAC.
Hamilton was hit by a pitch in the first inning, tripled in the third, homered in the fifth and singled twice in the seventh inning. The four-hit afternoon was his 20th multi-hit game of the year and he raised his conference batting average to .483. In four games against Hilo, Hamilton has 10 hits.
Winning pitcher Chris Bradshaw allowed five runs on eights hits in 7.2 innings pitched. Bradshaw allowed only three base runners in the first six innings. He allowed a walk in the first, a double in the fourth and a hit batsmen in the sixth. He walked two and struck out four in the game, raising his record to 4-4.
TCU scored once in the first on two walks, a hit batsmen and a sacrifice fly by Cade Harris. In the third, TCU had four hits, including the triple by Hamilton that plated two runs. Harris added an RBI-single in the inning to account for the third run.
The Frogs broke the game open in the seventh as they sent 11 men to the plate. Hamilton got the inning started with a single. After Hilo retired the next two hitters, TCU put together seven straight hits and a hit batsmen. Brad Rogers doubled down the right field line to score Hamilton. Jason Price, Marshall WIlson and Ramon Moses all reached on singles. With the bases loaded, Levi Groomer was hit by a pitch his 19th of the season, tying the school record. Erick Macha singled and then Hamilton drove in a pair of runs on his second base hit of the inning.
Hilo scored twice in the seventh on a pair of hits, the biggest a two-run triple by Dana McCracken. The Vulcans added three runs in the eighth on six hits, chasing Bradshaw from the game. Stan Newton pitched the final 1.1 innings to preserve the win for TCU.
The series will continue on Friday, April 14. First-pitch is scheduled for 2:35 p.m.
