Charity Elliott, a 24-year college head coaching veteran and seven-time NCAA Tournament participant, is in her first season as an assistant coach with TCU women's basketball.
Elliott joined head coach Mark Campbell’s staff ahead of the 2026-27 campaign after spending the past five seasons as the head coach at Point Loma Nazarene. She moved to the San Diego shoreline following nine years at the helm of Loyola Marymount from 2012-21. Elliott previously enjoyed head coaching appointments at UC San Diego (2007-12), Portland State (2004-07) and California Baptist (2001-03).
Throughout her distinguished career, Elliott has developed a reputation as a proven program builder.
A native of Fair Grove, Missouri, Elliott increased Point Loma’s year-over win totals in each of her first four seasons and led the Sea Lions to their first PacWest Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2024-25. Point Loma win an NCAA-era school record 25 games in Elliott’s penultimate season on the bench. She guided the Sea Lions to a 21-9 overall record and third straight NCAA Tournament appearance this past year.
Her work at UC San Diego set the stage for the Tritons’ eventual reclassification to NCAA Division I. During her five-season run, Elliott posted a .789 winning percentage (127-34), notched four NCAA West Regional berths and won three conference titles. Elliott’s Tritons won more than 20 games every year, highlighted by a 30-3 campaign in 2011-12 that saw UC San Diego start 26-0 and hold the No. 1 national ranking for seven weeks.
Elliott facilitated a steady rebuild at LMU that culminated with a WNIT appearance in 2018-19, the program’s first postseason berth in 15 years. She earned notable head coaching victories over Pac-12 affiliates Arizona, Oregon State and UCLA and future Power Four conference member BYU.
In total, Elliott posted a winning record in 12 seasons and accumulated 387 career head coaching victories. She received WBCA West Region Coach of the Year and California Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year honors in her final season at UC San Diego.
Elliott stepped away from her post in Los Angeles following the 2020-21 season to accept the head coaching job at Point Loma. She surpassed 300 career wins in her inaugural season. In 2023-24, she returned the Sea Lions to the NCAA West Regional for the first time in seven years.
Her coaching career also includes assistant coaching stints at Arkansas (2003-04), Southwest Baptist (1996-99), Southwest Missouri State (1994-96) and San Diego State (1993-94). She first served in a head coaching capacity from 1999-00 with the South Adelaide Basketball Club of the Australian Basketball Association. Elliott’s journey began in 1992 when she accepted the freshman girls’ basketball coaching job at Glendale High School in Springfield, Missouri.
Elliott transitioned to the sidelines following a standout playing career at Rice and Missouri State. She averaged 16 points per game as a sophomore for the Owls before transferring to her home state for her final two years of eligibility. Elliott helped lead the Bears to a 31-3 record on their historic run to the Final Four in 1992. Missouri State competed to a 57-8 record across Elliott’s two seasons in the lineup. Elliott was honored as the SMSU Woman of the Year following her senior campaign.
She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Southwest Missouri State in 1992. Elliott later earned a Master of Science degree in education from Southwest Baptist University.
Elliott and her husband, Chris, a fellow Missouri State alum, have coached together on various staffs dating back to her time at San Diego State in 1993-94.
