Mona Groteguth-Garcia became TCU's assistant coach entering the 2019-20 season.
Groteguth-Garcia previously coached at the University of Indianapolis since 2017. During her time in Indianapolis, the men's team won two GLVC Conference Championship titles (2018, 2019) and two third place finishes at the NCAA DII Championships (2018,2019). The women's team placed second in the GLVC in 2018 and 2019.
"She brings a championship experience from her time at the University of Indianapolis and has had a large amount of experience working with Division II NCAA All-Americans and champions," Winchester said. "As someone who has coached at the Division II level, there's a lot of fast swimming that occurs, and Mona will bring great knowledge and experience from that level."
She also instructed a Kinesiology undergraduate course at the University of Indianapolis.
Groteguth-Garcia spent her student-athlete years (2011-15) up I-35 in Denton at North Texas where she was a team captain her senior year. In 2008 and 2012, Groteguth-Garcia was an Olympic Trials Qualifier and in 2012 she was also a B-Finalist in the 100 and 200 Backstroke.
After graduating, she moved to Romeoville, Illinois, to be a graduate assistant swim coach at Lewis University.
"I want to thank James Winchester for bringing me into the TCU family," Groteguth-Garcia said. "It's an honor to be part of a staff that is committed to student-athletes' success in the classroom, pool and beyond. I am incredibly excited to become a Horned Frog and to help in continuing to build the program."
Groteguth-Garcia graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from North Texas in 2015 before completing her Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership at Lewis University in 2017.
