TCU Sports Nutrition Department Services
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Individual One-On-One Counseling
TCU’s Sports Dietitians work directly with student athletes to encourage and assist them in meeting their training goals through optimal nutrition. Our main purpose is to not only guide athletes on what to eat for performance, but to instill life-long education on the benefits of proper nutrition. One-on-one session topics include (but are not limited to): individual nutrition assessment, personal goal setting, supplement information, dining facility eating, sport specific nutrient timing education concerning hydration, pre and post-game meals, diet evaluation, diet modification recommendations, hydration planning, medical nutrition therapy recommendations, and weight gain/loss strategies.
Body Composition Analysis (Bod Pod)
TCU Sports Nutrition Department utilizes a Bod Pod Gold Standard Body Composition Tracking System to assess body composition using air displacement. The TCU Sports Nutrition Department will perform routine individual and team testing, when appropriate, for student athletes multiple times throughout the school year. Results are used to help athletes achieve both their weight and training goals.
Competition Fueling
The TCU Sports Nutrition Department provides competition fueling for both home and away events. The Department offer a wide variety of fueling options to meet the athlete’s pre-competition, during competition, and post-competition needs. Athletes, coaches, and director of operations work closely with the Sports Nutrition staff to ensures the athletes are adequately consuming the correct amounts of fluids, electrolytes, carbohydrates, and protein to enhance performance and limit injury or undesirable side effects that come with under-fueling.
Education
A number of specialized education tools are provided at Texas Christian University to ensure that athletes understand what, why, and how to implement proper fueling into their daily lives. Cooking classes and grocery store tours are offered to assist athletes in knowing what foods to buy and how to prepare them. NCAA permissible, impermissible, and banned supplement education is available to all athletes in an attempt to encourage a food first philosophy, as well as to ensure safety of our student athletes. Nutrition tips, social media posts, and a number of handouts on various nutrition related topics, are also provided to student-athletes on a regular basis. TCU’s Sports Nutrition Staff also provides tailored team talks multiple times throughout the year to accommodate each team’s specific nutritional needs during their respective season.
Satellite Fueling Stations
Every team has unique needs as well as a unique location out of which they practice and spend most of their time. In order to meet team specific nutritional needs the Sports Nutrition Department has created a “mini” Fueling Station, fully equipped with sport specific nutrition education, at each sport’s respective facilities. This satellite Fueling Station serves as a fueling check-point for all athletes before, during, and after training and supplies them with strategically selected food supplements and beverages.
Own your nutrition, up your game.
