Forgive me if I offend anyone:
But I feel like it is my duty to bring to light an on-going problem at TCU. It came to a head again Tuesday night at the TCU football game. With this young Frog football team shell-shocked from an aggressive first half from East Carolina, many of the Frog "faithful" decided that they had seen enough and elected to leave Amon Carter Stadium. Fortunately, the coaching staff and players did not do the same. If there was any question as to the heart of these Frogs or whether they would play hard for Coach Patterson, those questions were answered. But if you left at halftime, you wouldn't know that. You missed a heckuvan effort!
Heart of a Frog:
Those of us in the radio booth looked at each other at halftime and remarked that the second half could be two breakout quarters for Casey Printers after an injured shoulder kept him out of the Army game and limited his work in practice. After the stellar performance by Sean Stilley against Army, many Frog fans began to waver on who should be the starter. But I for one was impressed by the way Casey responded. At halftime he was vocal with his teammates and then backed it up with great play on the field. He quickly shook off the rust, proved his ability to handle the pressure by leading the Frogs to six consecutive fourth-down conversions, and calmly marched the Frogs to within one catch of a spectacular comeback. Who knows? Stilley's performance in the Army game and his start against ECU may be the best thing that could have happened to Casey!
Basketball Media Day:
The head men's and women's basketball coaches in C-USA got together last weekend in Chicago for their annual media day. And as was the case in the WAC, Billy Tubbs was one of the "media darlings." In fact, Tubbs, Memphis coach John Calipari, Louisville head man Rick Pitino and Bob Huggins of Cincinnati were whisked off into a special room with the ESPN boys for a secret taping. Look for some of that footage to make the air on ESPN during the college basketball season this year. Wouldn't you want to be a fly on the wall in that room!
Frogments:
In hopes that you'll bring your friends out to get a first glance at the Frogs, the three basketball exhibition games will be free to the public. The men open up next Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer, while the first women's exhibition is this Saturday at 7:00...The Bobblehead giveaway for all of the kids in attendance Tuesday night at the East Carolina football game was a huge success. If by chance your child was unable to make it out to the game, or if you exceed the 14-year age limit, you can still own a Bobblehead Frog of your own, simply stop by the TCU Bookstore on Berry Street. The Bobble Frogs went on sale Wednesday...Tricia Payne, the star guard for Jeff Mittie's Lady Frogs who injured her knee in the first practice of the year, had successful knee surgery on Wednesday. It is expected that her rehab for the torn ACL will take several months, ruling out her return to the floor this season...A job well done by goalkeeper coach Jay Fitzgerald, who was the analyst on TCU's first-ever soccer broadcast. I think he lied when he said he had never done radio before.
