Conference USA Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Irving, Texas - Conference USA will celebrate its 10th anniversary during the 2004-05 season. C-USA will commemorate this milestone throughout the year with a multimedia campaign celebrating the past, present and future of the league. Several activities have been planned for the upcoming season that capture the history of C-USA and promote the student-athletes' achievements in all 19 conference-sponsored sports.
Beginning in August, the league will kick off its 10th year with the introduction of "Conference USA: Top 10 Moments in History" on the league's official website, conferenceusa.com. Over a 10-day span, the conference will post daily one of the Top 10 moments in history. Following one week of voting by fans, the "top" moment will be announced on the website on as the fall season of competition begins.
All-Decade teams and Players of the Decade will be selected in each sport and announced during each sports' championship week. Each C-USA member institution will nominate student-athletes for these awards. Selection will be based on outstanding athletic achievement in Conference USA history and will be determined by coaches and in select sports, a media panel. A Coach of the Decade will also be selected in each sport and announced along with the All-Decade teams.
An overall Player of the Decade for men and women and and Coach of the Decade will also be chosen by a conference-appointed committee and announced in May.
The conference will enhance its Be There campaign, which promotes women's athletics, with the 10th Anniversary celebration. A list of Top 10 Moments in Conference USA Women's Athletic History will debut in February in conjunction with National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The conference will also honor 10 women that represent outstanding contributions to women in sport.
Founded in 1995, Conference USA has earned a solid reputation of successfully competing at the highest levels of intercollegiate athletics. The league has enjoyed tremendous achievement in its short history through the strengths of its distinguished and diverse membership, The league prepares to embark on the next decade with a promising future ahead.
