Denton Returns to Frogs' Football Radio Booth
July 12, 2002
FORT WORTH, Texas - Following a one-year hiatus, former Horned Frog kicker and radio commentator John Denton will return to the TCU radio booth this season as the color analyst, TCU Director of Broadcasting Brian Estridge announced today. He takes the place of David Breedlove, who served as the color commentator during the 2001 season.
"With David's growing family, he made the honorable decision to be with them on Frog football Saturdays," Estridge said. "We are fortunate that John Denton is now at a point in his career where he can return to the booth. His knowledge and passion for TCU football makes him a fan favorite, and we're excited that he is back with us."
The 2002 season will mark the 14th year on the TCU/ESPN Regional Sports Network for the former letterman. Denton, who came to TCU as a walk-on, lettered four years as a kicker and punter for the Horned Frogs from 1981-1984, and played in the 1984 Bluebonnet Bowl.
In addition to his extensive radio experience with TCU, Denton has also worked for CBS Radio doing Monday Night Football, the NCAA Basketball Tournament, the Major League Baseball Game of the Week and the College Football Game of the Week. Denton made the decision to relinquish his TCU radio duties prior to the 2001 season after his role as the General Manager-Northern Region of Professional Turf Products, Inc., a subsidiary of The Toro Company, expanded.
"Naturally I'm thrilled to be back in the booth at TCU," Denton said. "As an alum and former player, it's something that is near and dear to my heart. I have done a lot of broadcasting in my life, but for me, nothing compares to Horned Frog football. I'm looking forward to watching Coach Patterson's team provide more winning Saturdays and a fifth straight bowl game."
Denton graduated from TCU in 1985 with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism. He and his wife Linda reside in Dallas with their two daughters, Erin, 4 and Meredith, 2.
