Horned Frogs Finish 53rd in Directors Cup

TCU finished in 53rd place in the final 2003-04 United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings for Division I athletics. The Directors Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), United States Sports Academy and USA TODAY to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country.
The Frogs received a total of 365.5 points to finish as the top school among Conference USA institutions. Tulane was second among C-USA schools with 222 points and a 77th place finish overall.
For TCU, it is the second highest finish in school history, topped only by the 51st place finish during the 2000-01 school year. The Frogs placed in a tie for 60th place in 2001-02 with 300.5 points and ranked 64th a year ago with 277.75 points.
In the 2003-04 school year, TCU continued its recent success in the field of competition. The Frogs notched four Conference USA titles, winning crowns in men's golf, women's swimming & diving, women's indoor track & field and baseball, along with nine second place finishes. The conference titles in women's swimming and indoor track were the first ever in school history in those programs, while the baseball program reached the NCAA Tournament for just the third time ever. The men's outdoor track & field team notched the highest national ranking, tying for fourth at the NCAA Championships. The Frogs also received points from football, women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, baseball and women's outdoor track & field to total the 365.5 points.
Stanford University captured the overall title for the 10th consecutive year with 1337.25 points, surpassing runner-up University of Michigan by 111 points. Stanford captured national championships in women's tennis and women and men's cross country and was the runner-up in men's swimming. The Cardinal placed eight additional teams in the top 10. UCLA, Ohio State and Georgia rounded out the top five.
Developed as a joint effort between USA TODAY and NACDA, the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup program is the only all-sports competition that recognizes the institution in each of the four categories with the best overall athletics program.
Of the 327 eligible colleges and universities in the NCAA Division I, a total of 278 (85 percent) scored points in the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup competition. Complete final rankings on all of these institutions are available on NACDA's website at www.nacda.com.
