FORT WORTH, Texas - Baseball's A.J. Balta and men's golf's Hayden Springer were named TCU's Scholar Athletes of the Month for May.
Balta, a senior who was enrolled in the Master of Liberal Arts program, hit .364 (20-for-55), crushed three home runs and drove in 20 RBI in May. The Valencia, Calif., native drove in 13 runs in the Big 12 Tournament while helping the Horned Frogs reach the championship game.
Springer, a junior majoring in business, shot a career-best 4-under 212 to lead the Horned Frogs and tie for 12th at the NCAA Regional May 16-18. The Trophy Club, Texas native shot a second-round score of 5-under 67, which tied his career low.
