TCU Spirit Squads Head To Championships

For the first time in seven years, the TCU Cheerleading Squad returns to competition at the National Cheerleading Association/Collegiate Cheerleading Championship. In addition, the TCU Showgirls Dance team will take part in the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Dance Team Championships. The competitions will take place March 31 to April 4 in Daytona, Florida.
The cheerleading squad, consisting of four gentlemen and sixteen ladies, will represent TCU against schools such as Colorado, Houston, Idaho, and SMU in the Small Coed Division 1A group. The squad has been practicing their routine of stunts, tumbling, pyramids, basket tosses, cheers, and dance since January and has high hopes of success.
The Showgirls will be competiting in the Dance Division 1A competition. The team consists of 12 Showgirls who will perform an exhaustive and exciting dance routine which includes the styles of jazz, pom, and funk. The girls have been working on this routine three to five days each week since January for several hours each practice.
The finals will be televised on a taped-delayed basis on April 17 at 1 p.m. CT on CBS. Last year's event boasted over seven million viewers.
