Shot a two-under 70 and scored par or better on 17 holes
DALLAS – Sofia Barroso Sá once again brought her best form to the Big 12 Championship.
Making her final regular season start as a Horned Frog, the senior is tied for second following round one of the league's flagship event after firing a two-under 70 on Thursday at Dallas Athletic Club.
Barroso Sá birdied or parred all-but-one of her holes and was one of only eight competitors in the 70-player field to finish under par. She'll start Friday's second 18 one stroke back of Houston's Natalie Sant Germain for a share of the lead.
The Portugal native continues to have a knack for leveling up in the advent of the postseason. She notched her fourth sub-par round in 10 tries in Big 12 Championship play with Thursday's performance.
Barroso Sá and TCU began the day on the back nine. She carded birdies on holes 11 and 15 en route to a two-under 35. Barroso Sá was bogey-free over her first 16 holes.
Her efforts kept the Horned Frogs in the mix in a wide-open tournament. TCU finished eight strokes over par (296) and is tied for seventh place with BYU. TCU trails Oklahoma State and Iowa State for third place by just three strokes. Only nine strokes separate teams two through eight on the leaderboard. No. 36 Houston holds a two-shot lead at three-under 285.
TCU was the hottest team on the course in the early going. The Horned Frogs briefly found themselves as the outright leader after starting four strokes under par through six-to-eight completed holes. TCU bagged eight back-nine birdies.
The consistency continued into the Horned Frogs' second nine. TCU was even-par after 13 holes.
The only negative on the ledger was the final quarter of the round. The Horned Frogs finished a collective eight strokes over par across holes six through nine.
All four players who turned in a counting score saved par on the ninth green to maintain top-half positioning for TCU.
Kirstin Angosta and Gracie McGovern each shot a 75 (+3) and are tied for 31st. Angosta parred eight of her final nine holes and was one-over (36) on the front nine. McGovern joined fellow sophomore Camille Min-Gaultier and Barroso Sá in carding a trio of birdies.
Min-Gaultier finished four strokes over par and T41. Sofie Dimitrova sits tied for 54th at plus-six.
TCU will begin round two on the front nine alongside BYU and Texas Tech. The Frogs will tee off in 10-minute intervals beginning at 8:50 a.m. on Friday.
