Lucas Franco hits first career grand slam
FORT WORTH – No. 17 TCU stretched its winning streak to six games with a 10-2 victory over Tulane Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Lucas Franco's first career grand slam highlighted the offensive outburst for the Frogs.
The Rundown
Two out runs helped the Frogs build a 3-0 lead in the first two innings. After a two-out double from Chase Brunson, Nolan Traeger put the Frogs in front with a base hit to left. Hits from Colton Griffin and Sawyer Strosnider in the second added two more runs.
After Cole Cramer gave TCU a 4-0 lead with a base knock in the fourth, Tulane cut the lead in half with two runs in the top of the fifth. With the tying run at the plate, Mason Brassfield's 10th strikeout of the night ended the inning.
TCU put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh. Chase Brunson scored after executing a double steal with Nolan Traeger. The throw to second was errant, allowing Brunson to score for a 5-1 ballgame. Three walks loaded the bases and Lucas Franco brought them all home with a grand slam to right. TCU added its 10th run in the eighth on a two-out single from Kyuss Gargett.
Brassfield (2-1) was outstanding over five innings. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked two and struck out a career-high 10. Nate Stern worked two scoreless, while Trevor Baumler and Tyler Phenow each tossed a scoreless inning.
