Small Named Big 12 Freshman of the Week

The true freshman tallied a pair of touchdowns against ACU.

FORT WORTH - On the merits of a two-touchdown performance which also included his first career receptions, true freshman wide receiver Ed Small was named the Big 12's Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Small, an early enrollee who joined the Frogs in January, tallied six receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns against Abilene Christian on Saturday, part of TCU's 42-21 home opening victory.

He is the first Horned Frog to be named the league's freshman of the week as the award replaced the Newcomer of the Week award. Among that group, Small is the first to be recognized since linebacker Johnny Hodges earned the distinction on Nov. 7, 2022. Prior to that, Horned Frogs would have to go back to the 2019 season when Max Duggan was recognized for the award to find a TCU freshman receive the league's weekly honor.

Defensive back Bud Clark was also honored by the Big 12 as the Defensive Player of the Week this season following the North Carolina victory.
