Franco hits ninth home run of the season
The Rundown
The first 10 Utah hitters reached in the game as the Utes built a 7-0 lead in the first inning. Mason Bixby took over with one out in the frame and stemmed the tide.
A one-out walk to Chase Brunson in the second had the Frogs in business. He moved to third on a Nolan Traeger base hit and scored on an Anthony Silva single. A double play ended the inning, but Silva stayed in a rundown long enough for Traeger to score to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
Two more runs crossed the plate in the third as the Frogs pulled within three, 7-4. Jack Bell led off the inning with a base hit and Karson Bowen followed with a walk. Cole Cramer singled to drive in a run and Noah Franco hit a sacrifice fly.
The Frogs made it a one-run ballgame in the seventh. A two-out walk to Cramer set the stage for a two-run blast off the bat of Franco to pull the Frogs within one, 7-6.
Utah picked up a big insurance run in the eighth on a two-out double. The Utes closer pitched around a pair of two out base runners in the ninth to lock up the win.
Caedmon Parker (3-2) took the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits in 1/3 of an inning. Mason Bixby gave the Frogs 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. He gave up three hits, walked two and struck out three. Braeden Sloan allowed a run on three hits, walked two and struck out five over 3 2/3 innings.
