Brassfield tosses 6 1/3 scoreless in relief

FORT WORTH – Seven two-out runs over its final three at-bats helped TCU rally for a 12-6 win to complete the sweep of Fresno State Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. Mason Brassfield turned in 6 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.

The Rundown
Mason Brassfield (2-0) was outstanding in holding Fresno State at bay after the Bulldogs built a 6-2 lead three innings into the game. He allowed a single to the first batter he faced then proceeded to retire 17 in a row. He finished his outing allowing just three hits, one walk and recording a career-high seven strikeouts.

TCU saw a 1-0 first inning lead evaporate as the Bulldogs picked up two in the second. Sawyer Strosnider tied the game at two with a base hit in the bottom of the second, but a four spot in the third put Fresno State up 6-2.

The comeback started in the fourth as the Horned Frogs pulled within one, 6-5. With two on and one out, Isaac Cadena lined a triple just fair inside the first base bag to drive in two. He scored on a Cole Cramer sacrifice fly. TCU completed the comeback in the sixth as Chase Brunson singled home Colton Griffin to tie the game at six.

With two outs in the seventh a Noah Franco double started a parade of Horned Frogs to the plate. Griffin gave the Frogs an 8-6 lead with a double. He scored on a Cadena base knock. Following a wild pitch, Cadena scored to make it a 10-6 ballgame on Cramer's second hit of the day.

Two more two out runs scored in the eighth. Nolan Traeger led off the inning with a double and scored easily on a Franco triple. Strosnider followed with a double to account for the final score.

Stat of the Game:
17 – Mason Brassfield took over in the third inning and retired 17 in a row to get the game into the ninth inning.
