Parker and Sloan combine to fan 14
FORT WORTH – The pitching duo of Caedmon Parker and Braeden Sloan helped lead No. 19 TCU to a 5-2 victory over No. 22 Southern Miss Friday night at Lupton Stadium. TCU scored four unanswered runs late in the game to rally for the win.
The Rundown
Caedmon Parker went five innings in the no-decision, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked two and struck out a season-high seven batters. Braeden Sloan (1-0) followed with four hitless innings to earn the win. He allowed two walks in his first inning of work and retired the last 11 batters he faced, finishing the night with seven strikeouts.
TCU opened the scoring with a run in the first. Isaac Cadena singled with one out. Two passed balls and a wild pitch followed, giving the Horned Frogs the 1-0 lead.
Southern Miss tied the game in the second and took a 2-1 lead in the third. Parker limited the damage, leaving the bases loaded in the third.
The Frogs took advantage of another Golden Eagle miscue in the fifth to tie the game at two. With runners on the corners and one out, a balk allowed Cole Cramer to walk home with the tying run.
An inning later, the Frogs had a 4-2 lead. Again, miscues led to the runs as an errant throw on a Sawyer Strosnider stolen base attempt allowed Jack Bell to score the go-ahead run. Colton Griffin made the error hurt as he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Frogs some insurance. Chase Brunson's two-out double in the seventh drove in Cramer from first to account for the final score.
