
Trio of TCU Swimmers Collect Big 12 Weekly Honors

Student-athletes honored after pair of wins over Oklahoma Christian
FORT WORTH – Three individuals from the TCU swimming and diving team earned Big 12 weekly awards, the league announced Thursday.
Nigel Forbes was named the Big 12 Men's Swimmer of the Week, Shea Skarda was tabbed the Big 12 Men's Newcomer of the Week and Each of these individuals earned their first Big 12 weekly honor of their respective careers.
Forbes was named the Big 12 Swimmer of the Week thanks to a pair of victories and a top-three relay finish against Oklahoma Christian. In the 50 fly, Forbes swam a 22.05 to earn the first victory of the meet. The junior followed suit in the 100 free, clocking a 46.10 to secure his second triumph on the day. To close out the meet in the 200 free relay, Forbes, alongside Felipe Goncalves, Braedon Ando and Deacon Gutshall swam a 1:26.24 to place third. The Grand Bahama, Bahamas, native swam a 20.98 leadoff split to help guide the Horned Frogs to that finish.
Skarda garnered Big 12 Men's Newcomer of the Week accolades after grabbing an individual victory and posting a top-two finish versus Oklahoma Christian. The freshman's win came in the 200 IM, where he swam a winning mark of 1:57.35. The Kirkland, Washington, native then placed second in the 50 breast after throwing down a 26.33.
Worgull earned Big 12 Women's Co-Newcomer of the Week honors after sweeping the backstroke events and earning a second-place finish in a relay event during a successful outing against the Eagles. In the 50 back, Worgull touched the wall in 26.85 to come in first and then followed that up with a 56.70 in the 100 back to earn the event sweep. Alongside Avery Dillon, Hannah Wachendorfer and Amanda Ulicny in the 200 free relay, the quartet finished second with a mark of 1:39.43 with help from Worgull's 25.02 split.
The Frogs will stay at home for a pair of meets in the month of January. First, TCU will go up against Trinity (Jan. 3) and then face off against Texas Permian Basin (Jan. 10).
