Horned Frogs unable to overcome slow start
Josh Hoover went 10-23 for 183 yards passing. His top target, Eric McAlister, had 107 yards on four receptions.
Defensively, the Frogs (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) were not able to put up much of a fight against a determined BYU offense. The BYU (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) offense put up 447 yards of total offense, 296 through the air and 151 on the ground, and scored on their first seven possessions of the game.
In addition, the Cougars were able to keep the ball out of the TCU's hands, controlling the time of possession battle by over 12 minutes.
TCU's defense started uncharacteristically slow, allowing the Cougars to take a 17-0 first half lead to get the home crowd even more energy.
The game didn't get much better from there, as TCU would get on the board with a field goal but BYU marched right back down the field to extend their commanding lead.
TCU would finally find the end zone late in the second quarter, but the defense once again did not provide much resistance to the BYU offense and allowed the Cougars to take a 27-10 lead headed into halftime.
The Frogs generated some life by way of an opening drive field goal in the second half, but the first half issues would continue to repeat themselves to allow BYU to put it out of reach.
NOTING THE FROGS
TCU scored for the 417th consecutive game, the second longest streak in NCAA history … TCU failed to score in the first quarter for the fifth time in seven Big 12 games this season … BYU's points on the opening drive were the first opening-drive-points TCU has allowed since the season opener at North Carolina … Eric McAlister finished the game with 941 yards on the season, good for ninth-most in a season in school history … Josh Hoover was held below a 50-percent completion percentage for the first time in his career.
