TCU linebacker earned All-Big 12 honors in 2022
NEW YORK -- TCU linebacker Johnny Hodges has been named to the Comeback Player of the Year Watch List, presented by the College Sports Communicators in conjunction with the Associated Press and Fiesta Bowl Organization.
Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness or other circumstances.
The 2022 Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year and second-team All-Big 12 selection, Hodges was limited by injury to four games last season. He still tied for 10th on the team with 28 tackles which included 4.0 for loss and 2.0 sacks. He started the opening three games before returning to action with another start in his final contest on Nov. 2 at Texas Tech. He recorded at least one TFL in three of his four games.
Hodges, a junior from Darnestown, Md., had a team-best 87 tackles in 2022 as TCU reached the College Football Playoff National Championship. It was the most stops by a Horned Frog since Garret Wallow had 90 in 2020. Hodges was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after a season-high 11 tackles, including 1.5 for loss, as TCU held Texas to 199 yards of offense in a 17-10 win in Austin.
