Seven Horned Frogs advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Maria Bienvenu and Irene Jepkemboi punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at John McDonnell Field.
In the javelin, Bienvenu made a statement with her fifth-place throw of 54.06m (177-4) to claim a spot in Eugene. Jepkemboi, this year's Big 12 Champion, took seventh with her mark of 53.43m (175-3).
TCU was one of just two schools with two or more qualifiers in the javelin.
Iyana Gray earned two spots in Saturday's quarterfinals as she took fifth in the 100m with her time of 11.09 (3.3w). She won her heat to automatically advance. She also earned an automatic bid to the 200m finals as she placed second in her heat at 22.72 (3.0w). Gray finished sixth overall in the 200m first round.
Joining her in the 200m quarterfinals is Teanna Harlin. Her personal-best 23.03 earned her second place and automatically qualified her to Saturday. It also moves her up to No. 6 in TCU history in the 200m.
Gracie Morris' 4:17.70 in the 1500m was good for sixth overall. She took second in her heat to automatically advance to Saturday's quarterfinals. It's Morris' third straight trip to the 1500m quarterfinals at the NCAA West First Round.
Two Horned Frogs also clinched lanes in the 400mH quarterfinals. Tia Williams placed 10th overall and qualified with her time of 57.43, while Amelliah Birdow's time of 58.09 was good for 20th.
In the women's 400m, Samarra Monrroy placed 22nd overall with her time of 52.70 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
Jasmin Muhammad-Graham just missed the top 24 in the 800m as she finished 27th with her time of 2:07.87. Mikayla Hayes also had a strong showing in the 100m as she placed 27th at 11.27 (3.3w).
