Junior is now a finalist for two major awards
FORT WORTH - TCU baseball's junior left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle was named a semifinalist for USA Baseball's prestigious Golden Spikes Award presented to the top college baseball player in the country. He is one of 25 athletes named a semifinalist and the lone representative from the Big 12.
Tolle has been a superstar on the mound this season for the Horned Frogs. The junior currently leads the league with a 2.96 ERA, 116 strikeouts and a .191 opponents batting average. His 76 innings pitched are tied for the seventh-most in the league. On the national level, he is tied for eight-nationally in strikeouts and ranks 14th in K/9 at 13.74.
He was the unanimous National Pitcher of the Week after his complete-game 1-0 shutout victory at Oklahoma State earlier this season. He has tallied six quality starts this season, recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a game five times and been the starting pitcher in three of TCU's four shutouts on the season.
