Horned Frogs limited to just three hits
CINCINNATI – Cincinnati scored six times in the opening two innings and rode those runs to a 6-2, series-clinching win on Saturday afternoon at UC Baseball Stadium. Mason Bixby was a bright spot on the mound, fanning a career-high eight.
The Rundown
Two of the first three Bearcats reached in the first. A two-out double from Josh Hegemann put the Bearcats in front 2-0.
A four spot in the second extended Cincinnati's lead to 6-0. The big blow was a three-run home run off the bat of Tommy O'Connor.
TCU had opportunities to scratch across runs in multiple innings, but couldn't come up with the big hit. The Frogs stranded four base runners in the first four innings.
The Frogs finally cashed in in the sixth inning. A walk and a hit batter had two on with one out. Karson Bowen's two-out double just missed being a home run and drove in both runners to pull the Frogs within four, 6-2.
Louis Rodriguez (3-1) allowed six runs on five hits in his third consecutive start. He walked three and struck out four. Mason Bixby allowed one hit, walked three and struck out a career high eight batters over a career-high 4 2/3 innings of work. Chase Hoover struck out the lone Bearcat he faced.
