Frogs score six in the decisive eighth inning
The Rundown
TCU and Arizona State traded six run innings in the seventh and eighth, but it was the 5-0 lead that TCU built early in the game that provided the difference.
After the Sun Devils turned a 5-1 deficit into a 7-5 lead with six runs in the seventh, TCU wasted little time responding with a six spot of its own the next inning. With two on and nobody out, Ryder Robinson bounced a chopper down the third base line to drive in Karson Bowen, pulling the Frogs within one. An error loaded the bases with nobody out and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sam Myers tied the game.
Kurtis Byrne put the Frogs on top with a two-run triple. Three batters later, Anthony Silva drove in two big insurance runs with a double to make it an 11-7 ballgame.
The Sun Devils would get two back in the ninth, but Louis Rodriguez's second strikeout of the night ended the game.
TCU opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Karson Bowen beat a throw to second base allowing Byrne to score the opening run. Robinson followed with a bases-loaded walk.
Three more TCU runs crossed the plate in the fifth. Jack Basseer drove in a pair and Bowen hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-0 ballgame setting up the late inning dramatics.
Lost in all the offense was a quality start from Kole Klecker. The sophomore allowed a run on three hits, walked two and struck out six over six innings of work. Zachary Cawyer (4-0) got the win in relief.
