Maxwell tallies two hits in the game
FORT WORTH – TCU rallied to tie the game at five in the eighth, but Oklahoma responded with two in the ninth to hand the Horned Frogs a 7-5 loss Saturday night at Lupton Stadium. Logan Maxwell recorded two hits in the contest and Anthony Silva drove in two runs.
The Rundown
Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, the Horned Frogs battled to get the game tied at five. A walk to Logan Maxwell was followed by an infield single from Jack Basseer. With two runners in scoring position, Anthony Silva delivered a two-run single to pull the Frogs within one. Silva swiped two bases and easily scored on a Karson Bowen single to tie the game.
It didn't take long for Oklahoma to regain the lead as Carter Frederick hit a pinch-hit home run to lead off the ninth. The Sooners would tack on an insurance run in the inning to make it a 7-5 ballgame.
TCU opened the scoring in the fourth with a pair of runs. The first two hitters reached in the frame. Payton Tolle put the Frogs in front with an RBI-ground out. A wild pitch made it a 2-0 game.
Oklahoma took its first lead in the following inning. A three-run home run capped a four-run frame for the Sooners.
Kole Klecker started for the Horned Frogs and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings. Hunter Hodges tossed a season-high 3 1/3 innings. He allowed a run on two hits, walked two and struck out five. Zack Morris (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in the ninth.
