Frog pitchers tally 19 strikeouts
FORT WORTH – No. 5 TCU received a dominating performance on the mound from Braeden Sloan, setting the tone for a 6-1 win over Arizona Wednesday night at Lupton Stadium. Five Horned Frogs pitchers combined to tally 19 strikeouts in the game. Sloan accounted for 13 of the strikeouts.
The Rundown
Braeden Sloan (3-0) was masterful in his first start of the season. The sophomore twirled six innings of shutout baseball, allowing just three hits and striking out a career-high 13. He fanned multiple batters in each of the first four frames, including striking out the side in the first, third and fourth innings.
Offensively, TCU scored single runs in each of the first three innings to build an early lead. Peyton Chatagnier and Anthony Silva doubled in the first to put the Frogs in front 1-0. A Ryder Robinson sacrifice fly scored Chase Brunson, who had led off the second with a double. In the third, Kurtis Byrne grounded out to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
Back-to-back singles from Byrne and Karson Bowen to open the sixth turned into two big insurance runs. With the bases loaded and two outs, Sam Myers doubled to right to make it a 5-0 game.
An Arizona run in the eighth was answered by the Frogs in the bottom of the frame. Four walks in the inning gifted TCU its sixth run of the contest and accounted for the final score.
Andrew Mosiello struck out three around a hit batter in the seventh. Chase Hoover and Hunter Hodges combined to pitch the eighth. Ben Abeldt fanned two of four batters he faced to close out the game.
