Bowen drives in a career-high five runs
The Rundown
A back-and-forth affair started with Florida Gulf Coast taking advantage of an error in the first to take the lead. With one swing, Karson Bowen put the Horned Frogs on top 2-1 in the second. Chase Brunson doubled and scored on a Luke Boyers hit to make it a 3-1 ballgame after two.
The Eagles responded in the third with a pair of two-run home runs to take a 5-3 lead, but the Frogs once again had an answer. Bowen tied the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the inning.
FGCU regained the lead in the sixth, but Zachary Cawyer (2-0) limited the damage to just one run. He entered the game with the bases with nobody out. After giving up an infield single that put the Eagles in front 6-5, he got back-to-back ground balls to get the Frogs out of the jam.
TCU responded with a six spot in the bottom of the inning and never looked back. With two in scoring position and one out, back-to-back wild pitches allowed Brody Green and Chase Brunson to score, giving the Frogs a 7-6 lead. Payton Tolle delivered a two-run single to push the lead to three, 9-6. Bowen doubled home his fifth run of the game and Green followed with an infield single to give the Frogs a five-run cushion, 11-6.
Zack Morris allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in four innings of work. He walked three and struck out three in the no-decision. Cawyer picked up the win, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Hunter Hudges came on in the eighth with the bases loaded and one out. He retired two straight to secure his first save of the season.
