Udeh leads Frogs with 13 points and eight rebounds
FORT WORTH – A 3-pointer by senior Brendan Wenzel with 5.9 seconds to play gave TCU its first lead in the second half and a 66-65 win over No. 16 Arkansas in a charity exhibition Friday at Dickies Arena.
All proceeds of the event went to Cook Children's Health Foundation and the Arkansas Children's Foundation.
The Horned Frogs were led by Ernest Udeh Jr.'s 13 points and eight rebounds. The junior center was 6-of-7 from the field, including five alley-oop dunks, with the primary passer being Frankie Collins. The senior guard had 10 points and a game-high six assists.
TCU trailed by as many as 13 points, 54-41, with 1:42 remaining in the third quarter. The Frogs scored the final eight points of the third to cut the deficit to five points, 54-49.
Arkansas led 63-58 with just under five minutes to play. A layup by Collins cut it to two points, 65-63, with just over three minutes remaining. The rest of the game showcased a defensive effort that included two blocked shots by Udeh.
Wenzel's game-winning three came on a pass from Trazarien White, who finished with five points, five rebounds and three assists. TCU committed its two fouls to give, which forced the Razorbacks into a situation where they were down one with 1.8 seconds left. Boogie Fland took a guarded three that was off target.
Sophomore guard Vasean Allette finished with 10 points and had two of TCU's eight 3-pointers. The Frogs were 4-of-6 in the first quarter and finished 8-of-25.
As a team, TCU took care of the ball with 16 assists to just eight turnovers.
Two true freshmen, Micah Robinson and David Punch, saw a lot of action. Robinson had eight points, two rebounds and two assists in 11 minutes. Punch finished with five points and five rebounds in 12 minutes.
The Horned Frogs will open the regular season on Monday against Florida A&M at 7 p.m. in Schollmaier Arena. The game will be shown on ESPN+.
